Your hair is an important feature to your face. It’s very frustrating when you have to deal with female/male pattern baldness. In this type of baldness you will lose hair from the temple area and from the top of your head. Think of it as similar to a horseshoe shape.
When someone is has higher levels of male hormones or is destined genetically, this type of baldness can occur. However, this does not mean that you have to be bald. Alopecia is responsible for about 95% of complete baldness when the father is completely bald and the person in question loses their hair early on.
Although high levels of male hormones can cause you to lose your hair, there are some other factors to this issue as well, such as stress, improper nutrition, and environmental factors.
You do have many choices to solve your male pattern baldness. Some of the ones more commonly used are scalp flap surgery, scalp reduction surgery and hair transplant. Also for another solution you can try supplements to your diet along with a topical treatment.
When performing a hair transplant, a surgeon will take healthy hair from the scalp and replace it in the balding area. However, there does have to be enough hair to donate for this to be successful. People that deal with male pattern baldness are good candidates for this type of surgery. It can be easily performed and effective as long as there is healthy hair still growing on the scalp.
Another reason for baldness is due to flaking scalp. When this type occurs a surgery called scalp reduction can be performed. A surgeon will remove a small part of the balding area creating a smaller section of baldness. He will then continue with a hair transplant.
This next surgically treatment is called scalp flap. A procedure that is very invasive, involving the removal of part of the healthy scalp and hair from the sides and back of the head. It is then transplanted on the bald areas. For men that suffer from male pattern baldness, this will give them a new hairline. This scalp flap procedure is mostly performed on people that have balding towards the front of the scalp. This hair loss treatment might not be effective for those whose hair is thinning in random, patchy areas surrounding the head.
Taking prescription Propecia or using a topical shampoo such as Progaine is a less invasive solution to hair loss. Speak with your doctor prior to trying any hair loss treatment. If your cause is high levels of male hormones, Propecia can help by blocking the body’s conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone, which is the active form of testosterone. Studies have shown that when taken daily, this is very effective.
Speak with your doctor and ask about prescription propecia before taking a more invasive approach to your hair loss.
